The idea for this mixtape came after SC reader Houghty commented on our post on youthful bedroom producer Japanese Wallpaper, asking for similar tunes he could play while studying, and I just finished another round of the seemingly unending onslaught of exams that defines my existence, so I’d say now is as good a time as any for this post. Below are twenty songs that’ve gotten me through the agony that is revision, songs that, at least for me personally, provide studying with something resembling an enjoyable bent and are just subtle enough so as not to intrude with the learning process. The majority of these tunes are electronic, with a few exceptions (Sea Oleena and Japancakes bringing a dream pop/shoegazy angle to the mix and there’s, like, an Earth song), but none of this is overly ambient or anything. So yeah, hopefully we at Sunny Cellars have contributed to your continued academic success, enjoy the mix.
I would have included some jazzy stuff, but it seems to me like that might not appeal to the demographic for this blog. I should note, though, that Herbie Hancock’s ‘Maiden Voyage’, Kenny Burrell’s ‘Midnight Blue’ and obviously a bunch of Miles Davis has gotten me through more than a few hours of late night studying. Get on that shit if you’re so inclined.
