As mentioned by our resident hippy-hopper T recently, ‘cloud rap’ has started to make its presence known of late, thanks in part to the success of Tyler, The Creator and co., as well as the the growing popularity and demand for Clams Casino-produced tracks, gaining artists (as well as like-minded producers) such as Main Attrakionz (pictured above), Lil B and Spaceghostpurrp access to a growing audience of fans of their particular blends of light-headed, spacy tracks. “Cloudy” is a pretty apt description, and the actual term “cloud rap” was first used by hip-hop blog Space Age Hustle in a post last year, with its writers putting together the below compilation. It may seem cheap to re-post it, but my reasoning is entirely noble; there doesn’t seem to be a mediafire link for the collection, so credit me for saving you the mild annoyance of having to wait thirty seconds to download it from the obscure file-sharing site the comp was originally available from. It really is most dope, featuring excellent tracks by Lil B, Havoc and a druggy as fuck, chopped and screwed version of Tyler’s ‘Up’, as well as awesome cuts from rappers/artists I didn’t know previously (G-Side, Inkrowd and Lowe & Clova are all pretty impressive here). Inhale deep and take a listen.
