Whirr – ‘Distressor’ + ‘June’

There’s definite hints of a shoegazing streak beneath Deafheaven’s dense black metal tapestries, and guitarist Nick Bassett’s sideproject Whirr could go some way towards explaining this. Formerly known as Whirl, the band plays lush, gorgeous dream pop that should appeal to anyone who enjoys bands playing so-called “accessible” shoegaze like Wild Nothing or M83. The band is set to release a followup 7″ to last year’s Distressor LP,¬† entitled June, and judging from ‘Junebouvier’, the first track released off it, it should be pretty sweet; it’s a catchy, pretty much flawless tune, and difficult not to enjoy. I’d much rather have more Deafheaven, but I can definitely live with this. June comes out on the 27th of August.
