Daniel Dumile aka (MF) DOOM was never one to shy away from high profile collaborations (Madlib, Ghostface Killah, Danger Mouse, etc.), but it doesn’t get more noteworthy than working with Radiohead OGs Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood. I love DOOM, so I checked this out regardless of the fact that I’m not too crazy about Thommy boy’s recent forays into dubstep and stuff. His work with Burial and Four Tet was hugely underwhelming, and that combined with his newfound penchant for DJ-ing seems, to me at least, like an attempt at forcing continued relevance for himself and, thus, his band. Thankfully, the song, entitled, err, ‘Retarded Fren’, comes a lot closer to living up to its billing, based around a sparse, skittering beat and sporadic samples of Greenwood’s score for There Will Be Blood with DOOM doing his thang over the top. It’s surprisingly dope. The track is set to be featured on a compilation, Complex, marking Lex Records’ tenth anniversary, but we’re way ahead of them. Download below, yo.

no shit, i love kid A… but none of his new electronic shit seems genuine or natural to me, comes off like he’s trying too hard
