It only seemed fitting that the next band I obsessively email until the point when a response is the only thing that will stop their inbox from over-flowing in order to get a playlist from should be Old Gray.  Their new album is definitely going to up there on my list of best of ’11, and it was to my delight when I found the last FM of Mr. Bastek.  Although I find some of his song choices debatable (No matter how cool you are Mr. Bastek, Fall Out Boy is not acceptable music), there are some radical tunes down there (the recieving of this playlist spawned for me a rekindled relationship with ATD-I) and some cool reasons to why.

Age Sixteen – “Dear Judas”

One of my favorite emo/screamo/whatever bands ever. Every single song on Open Up Finders, Please is absolutely amazing. This song jams super hard and the part that starts at 2:05ish is perfect. Grooves. I find myself listening to less and less screamo but this band, L’antietam, Kidcrash and Calculator are perpetual favorites of mine.

At the Drive-In – “Ticklish”

At the Drive-In is my favorite band of all time. Back in my sophomore year of high school, I listened pretty much exclusively to Blink-182 and Fall Out Boy (From Under the Cork Tree is still one of my favorite albums, ever). One day my friend sent me a link to “One Armed Scissor” and, cliche as it may be, everything changed for me. Honestly though, fuck Relationship of Command. In/Casino/Out, the Vaya EP and Acrobatic Tenement are so much better.

At The Drive-In

The Gaslight Anthem – “Here’s Looking At You, Kid”

Back when it was cool to listen to Rise Against (Oh wait, it never was), I went to a concert and these guys opened for them. Before the show, I had only heard a song or two and I wasn’t really impressed. While they played, my jaw dropped and I stood there in awe, listening and absorbing the music. They were easily the highlight of the night. Funny story, I later got kicked out of the venue during Rise Against’s set for headbutting (Yeah, punk rock, huh?) some douche.

Fall Out Boy – “I’ve Got A Dark Alley and a Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth”

Forget the haters, this song will always rule.

L’antietam – “Holy Family Fuck”

Second favorite band, ever. I want them to get off their asses and release their new shit as soon as possible because I’m just way too excited. Some of their songs kind of blend together and I can’t even distinguish between them but they’re all golden. I played a show with MC Grape’s new band, BDRM EYES (check them out, they’re sweet) and he was the nicest fella ever.

L’antietam

Portugal. The Man – “People Say”

I developed a small Portugal obsession this past summer. I ended up blasting The Satanic Satanist every time I got in the car and it was sunny. Definitely a good life decision because it’s just the most laid-back and awesome album ever. For anyone/everyone who cares, Modest Mouse’s Lonesome Crowded West is my night/rain album.

Vampire Weekend – “Campus”

Hey look at me, I’m in college and I listen to hip indie music. Oh well, it still makes me dance. I don’t even like dancing.

Weezer – “Pink Triangle”

Weezer rounds out my top three favorite bands, after ATD-I and L’antietam. I am constantly listening to them and I’m convinced that, aside from Raditude, every album rules. Also, the high school I went to was called Pinkerton Academy. Badass, right? Blue Album is definitely the best, though.

Weezer

The Wombats – “Let’s Dance to Joy Division”

This song was on a mix CD my friend made me as a birthday gift. She wrote down the reasons for picking each song on the CD and the reasoning for this one was that it always makes her dance. I can’t say I don’t feel the same way.

Zolof the Rock and Roll Destroyer – “Ode to Madonna”

I’ve listened to Zolof more than I have Circa Survive but I’m way into both bands. Anthony Green is the man. The sax (right?) at the end is just way too killer.
